Online Banking and Finance Certificate

The online Banking and Finance certificate offers the same coursework as is required for the on-campus certificate.

As with the on-campus certificate, interested students may progress from earning a certificate or an associate degree to a bachelor's degree and then to an MBA from Metropolitan State University.

Overview of the Online Banking and Finance Certificate

To prepare for the online Banking and Finance certificate, please follow these steps:

Online Banking and Finance certificate checklist

1. Apply for admission

After reading the general information above, apply online for admission to MCTC. If you are currently an MCTC student, don't reapply — proceed to Step 6. If you have questions, contact the Admissions Office.

2. Take your placement tests

The introductory courses in the Banking and Finance certificate do not require placement into college-level readng and writing. However, students do need to take placement tests before registering for any of the advanced courses in the certificate.

If you cannot come to campus, take your placement tests at any institution that uses the Accuplacer Reading and Math tests, which are the MnSCU system endorsed tests. The scores from these tests can be faxed to 612-659-6265.

If you cannot arrange for proctored testing, or have other questions, contact the Director of Assessment and Testing by email or at 612-659-6260.

You must meet the prerequisite requirements for any course you plan to take. If you do not place at college level, you can take Adult Basic Education courses or developmental college courses on campus at MCTC or elsewhere prior to starting courses that require developmental prerequisites.

If you've attended a previous college, you may be able to waive placement testing.

3. Apply for financial aid (if needed)

Apply for financial aid if you need money for school. You must reapply for financial aid each year you attend school. If you have questions, email the Financial Aid Office.

4. Get your MCTC ID/PIN and library barcode number

Receive your MCTC ID and PIN by mail from the Admissions Office. Receive your Library Barcode from the ITS department.

5. Arrange to attend an orientation session

If you live in the Twin Cities area and have not attended college in the past, you must attend a new students orientation on campus. If you have attended college and/or have a college degree, you must contact a counselor or advisor at 612-659-6217, or by email to set up a transfer student orientation.

If you live outside the Twin Cities and are applying to the program as a distance education student you must contact the eAdvisor by email, or by phone 612-659-6700, to set up either a new student or a transfer student orientation.

You must complete the orientation in order to register for classes.

6. Register for your classes

Register for classes online using e-Services. If you have questions, contact the eAdvisor.

You may also use e-Services to view your fee statement, financial aid, class schedule and unofficial transcripts online.

7. Pay your tuition and fees

Pay for your tuition and fees by the tuition payment deadlines or your classes will be dropped. Contact the Business Services Office if you have third party billing or a scholarship.
